The Cadillac Lyriq was recently named one of the top candidates for the North American Car, Truck and Utility Vehicle of the Year (NACTOY) Awards, entering the “Utility Vehicle of the Year” category.
This year, 37 record-breaking individual vehicles qualified for the award in each category. The Cadillac Lyriq will compete with 30 rivals for the Utility Vehicle award, including the Audi Q4 e-Tron, Honda Pilot, Jeep Grand Wagoneer, Lexus RX, Toyota Sequoia, and many others.
The NACTOY Awards are held annually, and eligible candidates are selected by a panel of 50 judges from various print, online, radio, and broadcast media outlets across the US and Canada. Each judge comes from a different publication or media outlet, ensuring diversity of opinion when judging eligible vehicles.
“Once again the SUV category has the most eligible vehicles, but this list of confirmed vehicles shows that the automaker continues to believe in the future of the car category,” said NACTOY Secretary Nicole Wakelin.
The new Cadillac Lyriq electric battery has proven to be a hit among consumers. Orders for the first unit produced, known as the Lyriq Debut Edition model, sold out in less than 10 minutes, when the reservation bank opened last year. Recently, the order book for the next model opened on May 19th and also fills up rather quickly. Interested parties can now sign up for the waiting list by placing a $100 deposit that is fully refundable, giving them the chance to receive a 2023 model year Lyriq, or their first chance to secure a 2024 model year Lyriq.
The demographics of Lyriq’s early subscribers are quite interesting, as many of them are younger. Specifically, 68 percent of early Lyriq subscribers fall into the Gen X or Gen Y demographic group.
As a reminder, the Cadillac Lyriq Debut Edition 2023 is offered exclusively in the Luxury trim level with rear-wheel drive. Later models, however, will be available in rear-wheel drive or all-wheel drive. Power output is rated at 340 horsepower for the RWD model and 500 horsepower for the AWD model. Prices for the Lyriq Luxury RWD start at $62,900, while the Lyriq Luxury AWD starts at $64,900. A wider range of trim levels, such as Premium Luxury and Sport, are expected to arrive for the 2024 model year.
