First-Gen Dodge Viper Crashes While Racing Integra

First of all, the good news. As far as we know, there were no fatalities in this accident. That is, there is no physical injury to people. This first-generation Dodge Viper R/T10 really had better days, and we suspect the driver suffered from a broken ego and a broken heart.

This photo of the iconic 1990s supercar appeared in our feed via the Radwood Facebook group, which honors all things automotive from the 1980s and 1990s. The link in the post takes us to a video shared by Kyle Andrew Robertson, which captures this red Viper’s final moments against the classic Acura Integra. As you can see, it didn’t end well for the Viper.

We don’t have all the details that led to this unfortunate outcome, but we do know it happened in Dayton, Ohio. Apparently, there was a car meeting in the area last weekend, and people were recording videos of the participants leaving the scene. We don’t know if it’s a Radwood-style event, but this OG Viper ended up next to a modified Integra at a traffic light. So for a moment, the low-spinning V10 and four-pot Honda VTEC high-powered filled the air with all the 1990s glory they could muster.

Unfortunately, that is the high point of this 25-year dispute. The Integra comes off the intersection with the engine bouncing off the rotation limiter. To the Viper driver’s credit, it looks like the bait wasn’t picked up at first. But after crossing the intersection, we see the Viper passing through Acura then with violence turn right, hit a pole and stop facing the road. The video cuts a close-up of the damaged Viper, showing significant damage to the hood and front fascia.

So what happened? Apart from the obvious, commentators on the video said the weather was a bit chilly. It’s never good to find grip in a rear-wheel drive car with torque pool and without traction control. This particular stretch of road also turns very little to the right, and if we had to guess, we’d say the Viper driver rolled onto the gas after moving into second. Add it all up, and you have the recipe for a viral car video.

Obviously, we’re happy to hear there were no injuries in this crash. And we know we sound like grumpy parents every time we type this, but just chill out on the streets, okay? Let’s not look at shipwrecks anymore, especially rad classics like this one.
