The global microchip crisis is still unfolding in full force and the situation is not expected to improve until at least the middle of next year. Other factors, including the most recent war in Ukraine, also led to production disruptions. Meanwhile, the demand for new vehicles that are safer, more efficient and better looking continues to grow, naturally creating a wide gap between the number of cars available and the number of buyers. All of this leads to higher prices in the new and used car market.
New market analysis by iSeeCars covering an estimated 1.2 million new car listings in the United States revealing the country’s overall new car price is 9.9 percent above the Manufacturer’s Suggested Retail Price (MSRP). This may not seem like a huge price increase but some of the hottest products on the market are priced well above the market average. The Jeep Wrangler leads the chart with an average of $8,925 or 26.7 percent over MSRP, followed by the Ford Maverick in hybrid guise with $5,601 or 25 percent over MSRP.

“Dealers have responded to market conditions by pricing cars above the MSRP to gain higher profits on certain models and to help offset lower sales volumes due to limited new car production,” commented Karl Brauer, an analyst at iSeeCars. “In today’s market, consumers are willing to pay well above the sticker price for the best-selling vehicles because that’s the only way they can get their hands on the vehicle of their choice and avoid long waits.”
