BMW M8 Challenges Bentley Continental GT in Heavyweight Drag Race

The Bentley Continental GT is a luxury grand tourer that is meant to transport its driver and passengers in utmost comfort and luxury. More importantly, the British coupe can do it quickly too.

But is the Continental GT as fast as the BMW M8? That’s an expensive question, that question carwow try to answer. In its latest drag race, car shopping sites and automotive YouTube channels pit the Bentley Continental GT Speed against the BMW M8 Competition. Which do you think is faster up to a quarter of a mile?

First, let’s talk about weight. The competition’s BMW M8 is big enough, weighing in at 4,189 pounds (1,900 kilograms), but that’s nothing compared to the Bentley. The Continental GT is actually 661 lbs (300 kg) heavier than the Bimmer, which is the equivalent of three healthy adults.

To drive all that weight, the Conti GT Speed is powered by a twin-turbo 6.0-liter W12 engine that produces up to 651 horsepower (485 kilowatts) and 664 pound-feet (900 Newton-meters) of torque.

The M8 competition, on the other hand, uses a 4.4-liter twin-turbo V8 engine that lowers power and torque compared to the W12, resulting in only 617 hp (460 kW) and 553 lb-ft (750 Nm) of rev.

There is also a key difference between the two: transmission. Bentley actually uses a Porsche PDK dual-clutch transmission for the Continental GT Speed. Meanwhile, the M8 Competition’s only transmission option is an 8-speed automatic torque converter.

That said, the drag race above shows a best-out-of-three fight between the two coupes, with one of them being a landslide winner on a standing start. Which do you think? Let us know what you think in the comments section below.
