Honda Prelude Successor Reportedly Coming In 2028 As EV

It’s been more than two decades since the last Honda Prelude. Discontinued in 2001, this two-door sports coupe is one of the most attractive vehicles in the wide range of Japanese brands. But as the revival of the old nameplate has become all the rage in recent years (hello Toyota Supra and Acura Integra), there’s hope for the Prelude’s return.

With electrification already creeping in for the Japanese automaker, recent rumors from Japan suggest that the Prelude’s successor could be an EV and will be introduced in 2008. In fact, the model was already teased in Honda’s EV roadmap, which was revealed in April this year.

The rumor came from Japan Best Car Website, states that the two electric sports cars that Honda has teased in the roadmap are the successors to the Prelude and NSX (see main image at the top of this page). The Acura NSX has long been rumored to be returning as an all-electric model, even hinted at by Acura Vice President and Brand Officer Jon Ikeda himself.

But officially, Honda says that these two electric sports cars will be special and flagship models – both will be offered globally. Apart from the EV roadmap pictured above, Honda also shared some insight into its plans for the decade.

The North American market will get two mid-to-large EVs by 2024, which are currently being co-developed with GM – Honda’s all-new Prolog SUV has been revealed, and then there’s the new EV SUV for Acura as well. In China, Honda’s e:N EV series will see 10 new models by 2027. Japan, on the other hand, will get a commercial mini-EV model in early 2024, then a personal use mini-EV and an SUV EV. .

The second half of the 2020s will see the affordable Honda EV, still being developed through its alliance with GM. In all, 30 Honda EV models will be introduced globally by 2030, with production set at more than 2 million units per year.
