One month after announcing GM Korea’s consolidation as a global manufacturing center for small utility vehicles, General Motors just announced that its South Korean subsidiary has surpassed the two million current-generation crossover milestone.

The automaker officially announced that GM Korea has produced more than two million current-generation subcompact crossovers manufactured in the Asian country, a new milestone that highlights the strategic role of the company’s South Korean operations, with an important role in global manufacturing and exports. The figure represents the combined cumulative production of the Chevy Trax and Trailblazer crossovers, including the Buick Envista and Encore GX derivatives, since the models were launched six years ago.

“Achieving production of 2 million units of the Chevrolet Trax and Trailblazer crossover is an important milestone that shows the strategic importance of GM Korea’s operations in the global production network,” said GM Executive Vice President Production International Operations, Asif Khatri. “As vehicles manufactured in Korea continue to generate sustained demand and performance in global markets, GM will continue to invest to further strengthen the competitiveness of its operations in Korea,” he added.

In particular, the recently announced figure of two million subcompact crossovers produced by GM Korea corresponds exclusively to the two high-volume global duplex projects that the subsidiary has produced under the VSS-F platform since 2020, also known as the GM Korean Four. In fact, the company highlighted that it surpassed 2,000,000 units six years after the launch of its first two models, the Chevy Trailblazer and Buick Encore GX, at the start of the decade.

Thus, GM Korea’s two global compact crossover projects, which include four individual models, have contributed significantly to achieving a cumulative production volume of 13.4 million units for all subsidiaries by March 2026, after the company was founded in 2002. The Chevy Trax and Buick Envista projects have been the most exported vehicles in South Korea for three consecutive years and are approaching one million cumulative production units.

GM Korea’s new manufacturing milestone underscores the strategic importance of the company’s South Korean operations and supports its recently announced $600 million investment package, which will be implemented in two phases, to upgrade the models and the facilities where they are produced. The company aims to build 500,000 crossovers annually in the country and is preparing to begin production of the recently refreshed 2027 Chevy Trax.
