DXDT Racing has withdrawn its No. 11 Corvette Z06 GT3.R entry. 36 of the upcoming IMSA race at Laguna Seca after the transport truck caught fire.

According to sportscar365DXDT Racing experienced a “significant transporter fire” while traveling to a race scheduled for May 3rd2026. The team, based in North Carolina, was transporting a Corvette Z06 GT3.R when the carrier experienced suspected axle failure north of Bakersfield, California, on I-5. The failure resulted in a fire, although the team stated that no one was injured. It’s unclear what type of damage the No. 1 Corvette sustained. 36 as a result of the fire.

“Unfortunately the damage was too great for us to proceed with this weekend’s event at Laguna Seca, following damage to the left-rear truck axle and a major fire,” explained program manager Bryan Sellers. “It is devastating to have to make this decision, for all our partners involved and the individuals who support us.”

He added, “Dave Askew, Erin Gahagan, and myself are extremely grateful for the tremendous amount of help from our competitors, our manufacturing partners, and of course IMSA. We are already considering what needs to be done to ensure we are ready for Watkins Glen and moving forward.”

DXDT initially considered transporting a spare Corvette Z06 GT3.R chassis from North Carolina to the West Coast, but decided against it. The race car will arrive as early as Friday after a 40-hour journey.

Robert Wickens and Mason Filippi will drive the race car should it make it to the track. This will be Wickens’ second start of the 2026 racing season.

Interestingly, this DXDT incident is the second transporter fire incident in the last two weeks. The BSI Racing transporter caught fire en route to the SRO America race at the Circuit of the Americas in Texas.
