Chevy Equinox EV, Colorado Need Wireless Charger Update

Posted on

General Motors has issued a new service bulletin that may be relevant to owners of the Chevy Equinox EV, as well as certain units of the Chevy Colorado and Chevy Traverse. The document labeled PIC6627C describes a condition where the wireless charging system appears to be active even when there is no device present.

According to the bulletin, some drivers may see the wireless charging icon flashing even if the charging pad is empty. This behavior may appear as a green charging bolt appearing intermittently on the HMI, or an icon that cycles between states without the phone being detected. While the problem may seem minor, it indicates software incompatibility between major components.

GM attributed this condition to “incompatible versions of the Radio and Wireless Charging Module (WCM) software.” In practice, the vehicle’s A11 radio and wireless charging hardware are not properly synchronized, resulting in false positive charging indications.

If your Chevy Equinox EV exhibits this behavior, the service procedure is relatively straightforward, although it requires dealer-level intervention. The technician is first instructed to ensure that the A11 radio software is fully updated. This step is important because outdated radio software can mimic or exacerbate this problem.

Next, the technician should verify the condition by ensuring the vehicle is on, the charging pad is empty, and the charging icon is indeed flashing or behaving inconsistently. If confirmed, the specified repair involves replacing the T22 Wireless Charging Module entirely.

After hardware replacement, the new module must be reprogrammed with the latest software available using the GM Service Programming System. This ensures good communication between the charging module and the vehicle’s infotainment system in the future.

As GM notes in its bulletin, this procedure is intended for trained professionals. Owners experiencing this problem should consult their dealer to determine whether their vehicle qualifies for repair under warranty coverage.

In short, if your wireless charger seems to have a mind of its own, bulletin PIC6627C provides an explanation and solution.
