Cadillac Lyriq Orders Will Open After Debut Edition Lands

Thanks to an unprecedented amount of customer interest in the upcoming battery-electric Cadillac Lyriq, the luxury brand has decided to open its order book for new models sooner than originally thought.

“Customer interest in Lyriq is now so strong that we will forgo the new round of orders and start taking customer orders as soon as the Debut Edition launches in March. [2022],” said Mary Barra, CEO of Cadillac’s parent company, General Motors, in a letter to shareholders.

It’s true – the Cadillac Lyriq has garnered a fair amount of attention, and hasn’t even been released yet. In the US, Lyriq Debut Edition pre-orders fill up just 10 minutes after opening. Before long, 5,000 individual customers ordered a luxury electric crossover in China. With that in mind, it makes sense for Cadillac to decide to abandon the reservation process and start manufacturing vehicles to meet customer demand as soon as possible.

As a reminder, the Cadillac Lyriq 2023 is the brand’s first battery electric vehicle. The Debut Edition utilizes a 100.4 kWh Ultium lithium-ion battery pack and a single Drive Ultium motor mounted on the rear axle. The electric driveline is rated at 340 horsepower and 325 pound-feet of torque, and Cadillac estimates the Lyriq will have a 300-mile range from a full charge, despite the 5,610-pound ride on the chassis. Lyriq is built on the BEV3 platform.

The Lyriq Debut Edition is only available in two colors: Satin Steel Metallic and Stellar Black Metallic. However, more colors will be available once the regular model is launched. Additionally, while the Debut Edition is available exclusively with rear-wheel drive, we expect all-wheel drive along with at least one higher-performance variant, to be available in future models.
