BMW 3.0 CSL Hommage Spied Makes Great Sound When Hitting the Nurburgring

BMW is busy turning the M4 into a 3.0 CSL Hommage. Development requires a lot of laps on the track, and that process is currently underway at the Nürburgring. This video shows the upcoming limited-run model moving around the famous circuit.

The 3.0 CSL Hommage development vehicle sported a different camouflage than we saw on most vehicles during testing. It has images of the previous high-performance street cars and racers from BMW. Plus, there are small messages like “6MT FTW,” “Insanely Epic,” “I Donut Care,” and “I Like It Rare.”

There is a clear design resemblance to the M4 but with many modifications. The front fascia has a large opening. There is a wing on the roof and another on the rear deck. The rear fender looks wider. Four large diameter exhaust pipes come out from under the bumper.

Rumors suggest the 3.0 CSL Hommage could have an output of around 600 horsepower (447 kilowatts) and 516 pound-feet (700 Newton-meters) of torque. This will allow it to run up to 62 miles per hour (100 kilometers per hour) in 3.5 seconds and a top speed of under 200 mph (320 kph).

In comparison, the M4 CSL puts out 543 hp (404 kW) and 479 lb-ft (649 Nm) of the twin-turbo 3.0-liter inline-six engine. It reaches 60 mph (96 kph) in 3.6 seconds and the top speed is electronically limited to 191 mph (307 kph).

The “6MT FTW” sticker strongly hints that the 3.0 CSL Hommage will be available with a six-speed manual gearbox. For people who don’t want to mess with the clutch pedal, an eight-speed automatic can also be an option. That power will likely be channeled exclusively to the rear wheels.

While BMW will only make 1,000 units of the M4 CSL, the 3.0 CSL Hommage will reportedly have a much lower production line. According to rumors, the automaker will make just 50 of them as a connection to the M division celebrating half a century in business. The cost to own it is thought to be between €600,000 and €750,000.

Look for the 3.0 CSL Hommage to debut before the end of the year. We’ll have to see more of its development before the official launch.
