2023 Ford Ranger Drag Races Itself In A Duel Four Cylinder Vs V6

In case you didn’t know, the new Ford Ranger has been sold in many countries without the US. Now sporting a modified version of the T6 platform, the new generation midsize pickup truck has been given various updates, including the addition of a new V6 Power Stroke turbodiesel engine.

We drove the new Ford Ranger 2023 in Thailand earlier this year and we’ve given you an overview of the experience. However, it is a 2.0-liter biturbo version of the EcoBlue as the V6 is not available in the Southeast Asian country. Luckily, Australia got V6 deals and people from Car Expert can get one of their hands.

There are plenty of differences between the biturbo and V6 versions of the Ranger at Land Down Under, including full-time 4WD for the six cylinders. The V6-powered Ranger is definitely faster than the four-cylinder but as Car Expert say, is it worth thousands of dollars faster? To answer that, a drag race has been arranged between the two.

To put things in context, the Wildtrak Ranger with the 2.0-liter EcoBlue biturbo diesel has a base price of around 73,000 AUD or $50,800 at today’s exchange rates. Meanwhile, opt for the V6 for the same trim level and that base price goes up to AUD 76,000 or $52,900.

The timestamped video at the top of this page shows a drag race battle between the two. It was an eight-mile sprint, which should be enough for the truck to surpass 100 kilometers per hour (62 miles per hour).

Meanwhile, Ford hasn’t provided any information about the Ranger’s arrival in the US, although the long-bedded Ranger SuperCrew has been spotted testing. As for the powertrain, the diesel is unlikely to appear in the United States, so the twin-turbo 3.0-liter EcoBoost from the new Ford Ranger Raptor is a viable candidate for the top-tier option.
