Hummer EV, AMG G63, Durango Hellcat Face Off In Drag Race Battle

High-powered trucks and SUVs are the norm these days, and a new Throttle House YouTube video pits the three against each other in a pair of drag races. The Mercedes-AMG G63 is iconic, while the Dodge Durango Hellcat brings all the power. However, the GMC Hummer EV has truly dazzling specs, along with hefty weight.

Dodge packs the brand’s supercharged 6.2-liter engine, which makes 710 horsepower (522 kilowatts) and 645 pound-feet (875 Newton-meters) of torque. It is the lightest of the three at 5,710 pounds (2,590 kilograms). The Hummer EV is the heaviest, weighing in at 9,046 lbs (4,103 kg). It also has the most power, producing 1,000 hp (746 kW) from its electric motor. The Mercedes is the least powerful SUV in this battle, its twin-turbocharged 4.0-liter engine producing just 577 hp (430 kW) and 627 lb-ft (850 Nm) of torque. The AMG is slightly heavier than the Dodge – 5,842 lbs (2,650 kg).

The Durango Hellcat had a great launch from the starting line in the first race, gaining a sizeable advantage over the other two. The Hummer slowly closed the gap, but a top speed of 106 miles per hour robbed him of it, overtaking Dodge before the finish line. While the G63 secured its third early finish, it’s not far behind the Hummer, following its development. His lack of power certainly hurt him, but neither did he have launch control. Dodge has LC while Hummer has Watts to Freedom mode, helping couples get the best possible start.

The rolling race between the three was not much different. Dodge and Hummer stay head-to-head as they move away from AMG. The Hummer began to pull away, reaching its top speed just as it crossed the finish line and beating Durango who finished half a car behind. AMG took third again, trailing Dodge and GMC.

Today’s high-performance SUVs and trucks deliver incredible power to the average consumer. We live in a golden era of horsepower and torque, and the Hummer EV is an example of what the future will look like. It’s a gigantic vehicle that’s limited by its weight, but it’s still relatively fast.
