BMW X1 M35i, 1 Series M135i Facelift Will Have 315 Horsepower: Report

[ad_1]

If the recently leaked information is correct, BMW’s smallest offering will get a bit more power in the performance trim. Buyers in the US and around the world can enjoy 315 horsepower (235 kilowatts) in the X1 M35i, while markets open to the Series 1 can have the same punch in the updated M135i.

The information comes from Bimmer’s post. The popular BMW forum lists the latest information for future models, mentioning the X1 M35i xDrive has 315 hp in the process. The hotter M135 isn’t specifically mentioned, but recent information claims that the top trim version of the B48 engine will make up for the aforementioned power levels. This is the turbocharged 2.0-liter transverse-mount engine used in the Series 1. Motor1.com contacted BMW about the alleged power increase, but the automaker declined to comment.

The new X1 is already debuting for 2023, but only in the lower XDrive28i trim. Its version of the four-pot turbocharged engine produces 241 hp (180 kW), with a seven-speed dual-clutch transmission handling gear changes. Front-wheel drive is no longer offered on the X1, so regardless of the trim level, power flows to all four wheels. We’ve seen spy shots of the M35 in action at the Nurburgring, brandishing the quad exhaust tips and tweaked body panels hiding under the camouflage wrap. It will definitely stand apart from the standard model.

As for the Series 1, we also caught a camouflaged prototype in action with a quad exhaust tip. The current M135 already puts out 302 hp (225 kW) from its boosted engine, so the power bump is certainly modest. It is interesting to note that the leaked information mentions the X1 as the first vehicle to use the updated engine. This fits into our timeline for when the hotter X1 and fresher Series 1 will debut, lending further credence to the rumours.

By the way, we expect the X1 M35i to reveal before the end of 2022. Meanwhile, the M135i xDrive has just arrived for the 2022 model year, so the update is likely a year or so away.
