Honda Breaks Red Light, Destroys McLaren 570S

What seemed like a quiet summer evening in Woodward and 14 Mile Rd in metro Detroit turned into a nightmare for McLaren owners. Their recently upgraded supercar was badly damaged in a crash with what appeared to be a Honda crossover running at a red light.

Footage of Rivian’s electric vehicle parked very close to the intersection shows what really happened. This video was released by ViralHog on Youtube and while not of great quality, it shows Honda trying to turn left in front of McLaren. It’s hard to see the traffic lights for the crossover but it appears that the lights change as Japanese vehicles approach. It seems the driver tried to walk the “long” yellow light, although it didn’t end well.

As for the McLaren, it seems the British supercar is simply timing the lights by taking a deep turn to overtake the rest of the traffic waiting at a red light. Seeing as how all the cars depart together, this most likely means they’ll pass the green light, but McLaren drivers might as well get a ticket to go straight from the inner-turn lane.

We don’t know who was punished for this accident, but from our point of view, both drivers should be fined. Honda, obviously, was running at a red light, but McLaren was overtaking traffic from the wrong lane.

However, both drivers will experience difficulties in the coming weeks. The Honda rider will have to make sure his insurance covers the claims on McLaren and this is sure to be huge. McLaren drivers, in turn, can even lose their vehicles if the repair costs are too high and the insurance company declares it a write-off.

As a side note, supercar owners reportedly had around $100,000 worth of upgrades fitted to the car that same day, including an engine remap to 850 horsepower and carbon accessories. Good grief!
