It’s been almost a decade since the LaFerrari hybrid was revealed to the public, demonstrating Maranello’s willingness to embrace an electrified future. Today’s lineup includes not one but two PHEV models, with the 296 GTB and the SF90 Stradale. The Purosangue SUV that debuted in September will be built on a platform designed from day one to support the hybrid powertrain as even the Prancing Horse cannot be immune to stricter emissions regulations.
For this reason, 2025 will go down in history as the year that Ferrari will introduce a model without a combustion engine. One-percenters won’t have to worry about the extra weight ordered by the battery and other hardware as the company’s CEO says engineers will find a way to compensate for the added amount. “In terms of driving, in terms of … vehicle dynamics, we can manage this extra weight. It’s true, we have some 100 kilos more than a regular ICE car for the same type of horsepower, but that’s really … convincing I am the fact we have [a] deep understanding of vehicle dynamics. So it’s a challenge, but we see it as an opportunity … to keep making something unique.”
The top brass went on to say that although automakers generally use more or less the same electronic chips, Ferrari’s engineers were able to deliver something unique and distinctive. The 296 GTB, SF90 Stradale, electrified Purosangue and 2025 EV are just the tip of the iceberg as Ferrari says pure ICE models will only hit 40 percent by 2026, dropping to 20 percent by the end of the decade. By 2030, hybrids and EVs will each represent 40 percent.
To have complete control during the development phase, the electric motor will be engineered internally. In addition, the battery will be manufactured at Maranello and integrated into the car in a process that emphasizes lightweight construction.
