2023 BMW M2 Hits 181 MPH On German Autobahn With Ease

The BMW M2 won’t debut until this October, but BMW really wants people to drive it. We picked it up for a round last month, and so did the others. A new Daniel Abt YouTube video shows the high-performance coupe cruising on the German Autobahn at 181 miles per hour (292 kilometers per hour).

Powering the two doors is a BMW twin-turbocharged 3.0-liter straight-six engine. The powertrain makes 473 horsepower (347 kilowatts) in the M3 and M4, but won’t make much in the M2. BMW will limit the car’s output to around 450 hp (335 kW), which is an improvement over the M2 CS, which produces 444 hp (326 kW).

BMW may want people to drive it, but isn’t too eager to divulge all the performance details, like how long it takes to hit 60 miles per hour (96 kilometers per hour). However, the video shows the M2 reaching 181 mph effortlessly on the Autobahn.

BMW will channel the car’s power through a standard six-speed manual gearbox. An eight-speed M Steptronic automatic transmission from the automaker will also be available. The M2 will also attack the M4 for its active brakes and dampers as well.

The M2 will be wider than the other Series 2 variants thanks to its protruding fenders, and should look a lot more aggressive than the M240i sitting in the stables. BMW uses carbon fiber throughout the vehicle for the seats and paddle shifters. BMW also uses material for the roof, which helps reduce the car’s weight and lowers its center of gravity.

BMW continues to hide the coupe under the camouflage wrap, so we still have something to learn about the new model. The new M2 is a huge milestone for the automaker, as it will be the brand’s last ICE-only M model. BMW M will transition to producing hybrid and electric vehicles like any other industry.

There are still three months until the big reveal, but we don’t know how much is left for BMW to share. The new M2 will go on sale next April, and we wonder if we’ll see a hotter variant later. We hope so.
