Next Generation Audi SQ5 Can’t Hide Quad Exhaust Pipes In New Spy Shot

Audi is working on a redesigned Q5 crossover, and the overhaul will include the SQ5 trim. The new spy photo captures a sportier example of the test for the first time, and the company can’t hide the true performance nature of the model.

Audi covered the revamped crossover under a full-body camouflage wrap. This hides the design details of the model, but no camouflage can hide the quad exhaust pipes sticking out the back. The crossover also appears to use bigger brakes.

Fresh photos catch a glimpse of the SQ5’s interior, but Audi is smart to cover it up. The interior of the Q5 should resemble the new Audi A4, with a screen in front of the driver and another on the dashboard for infotainment functions. Audi’s popular crossover will come with all the latest technology and features.

The SQ5 doesn’t look any different from the previous prototypes we’ve seen. The new crossover will come with a single-frame grille flanked by air curtains and narrower headlamps. The wide lower bumper opening extends across the lower half of the face. The rear features a stand-in taillight unit.

Regardless of the powertrain that Audi chose to drive the redesigned SQ5, the engine should produce between 350-370 horsepower (260-275 kilowatts). It’s unclear whether Audi will keep the V6 under the hood or opt to downsize to a four-cylinder engine option. It’s possible Audi could pair the selected powertrain with a mild hybrid setup for extra efficiency and power.

We don’t have specific details yet on the other crossover powertrain lineup, but we expect Audi to offer a range of petrol and diesel engines, with electrification likely to be a key component. The Q5 will arrive in a plug-in hybrid configuration, and the all-electric Q5 E-Tron will also come.

Audi hasn’t announced when the new Q5 and hotter SQ5 could debut, but we don’t expect the sportier variant to be released until around 2024. The regular Q5 and its variants will debut and go on sale before the SQ5. The new Q5 will arrive at dealerships for the 2024 model year.
