Dodge Hellcat Swan Song Could Run On E85, Has More Power Than Satan

The Demon may be long gone, but Dodge will happily sell the 807 horsepower Jailbreak Challenger SRT. Granted, there aren’t any extra ponies to match the “cursed” muscle car and its colossal 808-hp output when running on regular gas. There will come a time when electric performance vehicles will pack more punch than drag strip monsters. In fact, it could be as early as 2024 when the company’s confirmed EVs will go on sale.

Before that happened, there was still life left in the old Hellcat. According to a new report from Mopar Insider, 6.2 liter supercharged will not die without the proverb. The SRT team is apparently working on a modified version of the V8 to run on E85 fuel in a bid to extract more power. How much it costs? It’s believed the engine will push upwards of 850 hp in what will be the limited edition Challenger SRT Hellcat Redeye Widebody.

While the exciting rumors say nothing about torque, we’ll remind you that the Demon produces 717 pound-feet (972 Newton-meters) on 91-octane fuel and 770 lb-ft (1,044 Nm) that moves mountains while feeding on juice. 100-octane. Running on 85 percent ethanol, the HEMI final could have more traction, but that remains to be seen.

If the 850+ horsepower figure turns out to be legit, the engine’s swan song will bring an output bump of at least 10 hp compared to the Demon’s high-octane fuel. It will be interesting to see if it will match or surpass the 885 wild horses available to Challenger with the Mopar Direct Connection upgrade.

The new arrival is allegedly part of Dodge’s “Never Lift” campaign and that means it will be out before the end of 2023. It’s unclear how limited production will be for now, but the Demon is limited to 3,300 units.
