General Motors prepares to start production of the Cadillac Celestiq. The automaker’s future flagship sedan will be built at GM’s Global Technical Center, the first production vehicle to come from the center of the company’s engineering and design efforts since it was unveiled in May 1956.
GM invested $81 million into the Global Technical Center in Warren, Michigan to support this production plan. The investment will be used to purchase and install related equipment to manufacture Celestiq. GM says renovations have started.

For the record, every unit of the Cadillac Celestiq will be handcrafted at the Global Technical Center. It is expected to have the highest volume of 3D printed parts (over 100) of any GM production vehicle.
“As Cadillac’s flagship sedan of the future, the Celestiq heralds a new era of brand revival,” said Mark Reuss, president of General Motors. “Each one will be handcrafted by the incredible team of craftsmen on our historic Technical Center campus. Today’s investment announcement underscores our commitment to delivering a world-class Cadillac with the best in craftsmanship, design, engineering and technology.”
The Celestiq will be built on GM’s Ultium platform. The platform will be the centerpiece of GM’s EV offensive using a common electric vehicle architecture and propulsion components such as battery cells, modules, packages, Ultium Drive units, EV motors, and integrated power electronics.
First announced in 2020, Cadillac has teased the Celestiq to remind us that its flagship sedan is coming. Previous teasers have revealed several details, including LED lighting elements and silver exterior trim.
“From its unique proportions and easy and sophisticated new form language, to its precision and attention to detail, the Celestiq is like nothing on the road today,” said Magalie Debellis, Cadillac Branded Advanced Design manager.
GM says more pictures of the Celestiq are coming soon – ahead of the car’s global debut in late July.
