What’s the best thing to do when leaving the truck in front of your house – especially if you live in a rural area? There is only one valid answer – never forget to lock your vehicle. There are dozens of scenarios where leaving your truck unlocked is dangerous and one of the less common is bear activity. A family in Gatlinburg, Tennessee, learned this lesson the hard way.
On a quiet Sunday three weeks ago, a bear approached a house in the woods with a pickup truck parked out front. This might not be an extraordinary thing for someone who lives in a non-urban area but what happened next was very unusual. The bear spent some time around the truck and then opened a door that looked like a Ford F-150 – and opened the door almost like a human. Then, the animal entered the cabin and started looking for something.
Less than a minute later, the bear found what he was looking for – something to eat, of course. According to the video description at the top of this page, which captures the crazy moment, the bear opens the center console of the truck and retrieves the M&M package left in the vehicle from a previous trip. The bear then tried to open the pack and, as the footage above shows, someone threw two rugs and a chair at the bear trying to get him out of the parking lot.
The good news is that no one was hurt and, apart from the stress of being targeted by the chair, the bear also appears to be in good health. We don’t know how long the bear continued circling around the house but the video ends with the animal staying a few feet from the truck. We also don’t know of any damage to the F-150’s interior but it’s only natural that the bear was very gentle upon entering the cabin.
