With Gran Turismo 7 out, video game developer Turn 10 Studios is fighting back by announcing the eighth installment in a racing simulator. Simply called Forza Motorsport, the new title has been developed from the ground up to take full advantage of the processing power available on the Xbox Series S and especially the more powerful X. Featured in the gameplay demo and announcement trailer is Maple Valley, one of the venues of the original FM.

We’re told that the fidelity of the game’s physics simulation has been increased by 48 times to narrow the gap between what’s real and what’s not. Changes in weather and time are available on all tracks and will have an impact on car performance based on track temperature which will directly affect tire grip. Harnessing the power of Microsoft’s latest console, Forza Motorsport has incredibly realistic car details, right down to the gold, carbon fiber and aluminum parts of the engine bay.

The car damage has received a whole new layer of realism as individual scratches on the bodywork will be visible after a collision with another vehicle or sidewall. Interestingly, the direction of the damage will be considered for the new FM titles, as will the buildup of dirt and how the paint peels off on the edges of the vehicle as well as on the wheels.

Featured during the Xbox & Bethesda Game Showcase, the new title was initially teased even before Microsoft released the Xbox Series X|S. The driving and physics of the game have been completely overhauled to reach the new level of immersion we usually associate with the GT series. For the same reason, tire and fuel management will be embedded into the new game.

As well as bringing back Maple Valley, the new title will also allow players to race on the much improved Laguna Seca and Spa-Francorchamps tracks along with new locations such as the Hakone Circuit in Japan and at South Africa’s Kyalami Grand Prix Circuit.

Arriving next spring on Xbox Series X|S, Forza Motorsport will also be available on PC.
