Drag racing is always fun to watch, but when the action is door-to-door, it’s even better. That’s especially true when you have two legendary supercars going head to head, and guys, it doesn’t get any better than this.
We have a beautiful looking 2018 Porsche 911 GT2 RS in black, racing against a 2020 Ferrari F8 Tributo in white. Both cars are stock, but when you’re talking about 700 horsepower and a seven-speed paddle-shift transmission straight from the factory, modifications are a moot point. Technically, the F8 Tributo has a slight edge with 710 hp from the twin-turbocharged 3.9-liter V8. GT2 RS only has 700 hp than its own twin-turbo engine, but is also several hundred pounds lighter. Both spin the rear wheels, and both use Michelin road tires. On paper, this is anyone’s game.
And you know what? That’s what we get in real life. The showdown takes place at Atco Dragway New Jersey, with DragTimes Record the action of both cars in a best-of-three battle. The first race set the stage with each car running a quarter mile in 10.25 seconds. Speeds are pretty much the same, too, with the 911 hitting 136.8 mph to the F8’s 135.8-mph trap speed. In the end, Ferrari won thanks to a faster reaction time at the starting line of 0.3 seconds. That’s how close the race is.
But the second race was even closer.
This time, both drivers recorded almost the same reaction time of 0.3 seconds. From there, it’s literally door to door across the line. The 911 GT2 RS ran a little slower, 10.19 at 137.3 mph to 10.18 @ 137.8 mph in the F8. However, the victory did not fall into the hands of Ferrari. For this one, we have to go to one hundredth seconds and the Porsche driver’s reaction time is 0.31 faster than 0.36 for the Ferrari.
