Despite the gradual shift to crossovers and SUVs in a bid to satisfy changing customer tastes, fine sedans and minivans are still holding out in China. Let’s not forget that there are long wheelbase sedans made and sold in the People’s Republic where you can also buy some luxury-oriented minivans. The Lexus LM, which is basically a luxury Toyota Alphard/Vellfire, is one of them and was launched in response to this – the Buick GL8.
The GL8 Avenir used to serve as the ultimate version of the people mover, but not anymore as it is paving the way for Century. The trim level name might make you think of Toyota Japan’s full-size luxury sedan, which is used here in the minivan with the la Rolls-Royce luxury headliner. It boasts a large screen that doubles as a separator between the first and second row seats.

It’s actually a folding screen that you control using the touch panel mounted on the center console. Its size hasn’t been revealed yet, but its sheer size should be comparable to the 31.3-inch Theater Screen of the new BMW 7 Series G70/i7. Coincidentally, it also folds up when not in use.
Since we mentioned the rear seats, they now have some of the widest headrests we’ve seen and incorporate Bose speakers. Being a large luxury minivan, the individual rear seats have a long footrest and you get a Maybach level of legroom to really stretch out. Cozy ambient lighting, sun blinds and luxurious leather add sophistication to the cabin to offer a limousine-like experience.
The Buick GL8 Century is quite large, measuring 5,230 millimeters (206 inches) long, 1,980 mm (78 inches) wide and 1,867 mm (73.5 inches) high. The car gets a two-tone paint job in the same vein as the most luxurious sedan out there and has received a bold new face for 2022. Apart from the high-end amenities, the bottom line is still a minivan, complete with sliding rear doors. body height and width to maximize interior space.
As a final note, the GL8 Century gets a redesigned Buick logo as we’ve seen on the Wildcat and Electra-X concepts.
