We have a dramatic video from south Florida where last week, a woman experienced a medical emergency while stopping at a busy intersection. We are pleased to report that all ended well without any injuries, and that the driver is doing well. The swift action of many good Samaritans saved this situation from turning into tragedy.

The incident occurred on May 5 at Boynton Beach, about 60 miles north of Miami. A traffic camera at the intersection of Congress Avenue and Woolbright Road captured the action; The video begins with what appears to be a second-generation Mazda3 slowly zooming diagonally into an intersection. Based on WPTVLaurie Rabyor was unconscious behind the wheel, passed out from a combination of blood pressure medication and fasting for an upcoming medical procedure.

The timestamp on the video shows 4:40 p.m. local time, indicating that this happened at the start of the evening rush hour traffic. With heavy traffic on several lanes around it, we saw the silver Ford Explorer barely miss a drifting Mazda. Luckily, one of Rabyor’s co-workers was in a nearby car and saw him slumped over the wheel. He ran to the intersection, chasing the car while attracting the attention of other motorists. From there, several other people got into action. The group manages to stop the car just after crossing the intersection, facing the oncoming traffic.

That’s only part of the story, however. With Rabyor unconscious and locked inside, there was no way to contact him or secure the car. One person is seen punching a window. Another person brought a dumbbell, which was used to eventually break the glass. While this was happening, the others continued to hold the car in place until it went out of gear. One of the residents was a nurse, who provided first aid to Rabyor until paramedics arrived.

Some people might feel a bit sad that so many drivers continued their journey despite the emergency, but those who got on really saved the day. The Boynton Beach Police Department released a video of the incident in hopes of finding good Samaritans and respecting them, and they succeeded. Based on WPTV, special ceremony taking place today.

The Rabyor is fine, no injuries, and as far as we know, the only damage is a shattered Mazda window. Overall, it’s hard to imagine a better outcome for such a potentially catastrophic situation.
