Porsche 911 Art Car Has Influence From Light Reflecting Off The Paint

German artist Hanna Schoenwald turns the 964 generation Porsche 911 Carrera 2 into a rolling piece of art. Porsche’s official Instagram page loves his creation so much that the automaker posted about it.

Porsche’s white body became a good canvas for Schoenwald to apply his design. In the video above, you can see that the process is very simple. He places blue guides onto the body and then paints the pattern with paint in one hand and brush in the other. On his page about the car, Schoenwald says his design took inspiration from “the natural reflection of the paint.”

Schoenwald didn’t just walk up to his 911 and start painting. He sketches ideas with pen on paper first. He also made ten design studies using fiberglass scale models mounted to canvas.

The design adds a mix of sharp straight lines and flowing curves to the 911’s exterior. The front has some of the most striking touches. The hood receives diagonal elements that follow the shape of the bumper on the nose. There is also an oval shape along the raised section leading to the headlights. There’s even a little decoration in the rearview mirror

Along the sides, inspiration following the reflection in the paint is most visible. Trapezoidal elements run between the fenders. He also added a line that follows the roofline before incorporating the shape into the rear fender flare.

The videos and pictures don’t give us a great look on the rear deck. What’s available at a glance shows some minor additions but not as extensive on the front.

The 964th generation of the 911 was available from the 1989 to 1994 model years. Initially launched as the all-wheel-drive Carrera 4, and the rear-drive Carrera 2 came a year later in 1990. There were coupe, convertible, and Targa body styles.

Porsche has worked with artists to create art cars from the company’s products. Recently, Shun Sudo covered the Taycan with a stylized floral image. The brand took him on a tour of Japan to show off the vibrant designs.
