General Motors is preparing a mid-cycle refresh for its Chevy Trax subcompact crossover, with plans to introduce updated styling and features alongside the new 2027 model year. Now, GM Authority provides a glimpse of what’s to come thanks to these spy images of the 2027 Chevy Trax.
Even though it’s covered in a thick cover of camouflage, this updated 2027 Chevy Trax prototype still gives us some hints about the upcoming design updates.

For starters, the prototype sports a new wheel design, or at least a set of wheels not currently offered for the 2026 Chevy Trax.
Taking a closer look at the camouflage, some important updates are visible. Up front, the refreshed Chevy Trax appears to adopt a more squared-off and upright fascia. While the current model’s vertical lighting elements are positioned around the outer edge of the fascia, the updated 2027 Chevy Trax appears to be switching to a more horizontal layout.

Additionally, the main headlights (visible below the top signature) have been repositioned higher on the fascia and now feature a side-by-side two-light configuration. A new grille mesh is also visible beneath the camouflage, with the overall design appearing reminiscent of the updated 2028 Chevy Blazer’s front fascia.
Moving on to the back, the updates are just as big. The taillights on this prototype show the typical two-stage lighting signature, with two distinct light strips visible through the camouflage.

The white reverse lights have been moved closer to the center of the rear fascia, revealing a wider, horizontally oriented rear lighting layout, while the shape of the rear bumper has also been revised.
While it’s possible GM will roll out an updated Trax into the 2028 model year, it currently seems like a debut for the 2027 model year is the more likely scenario.

As previously discussed, the updated 2027 Chevy Trax prototype follows the announcement of a $300 million investment in GM’s South Korean operations, where the Chevy Trax is currently manufactured. The investment will support the upcoming refresh of the Trax at GM’s Changwon plant, as well as updates to the mechanically related Buick Envista, which is built at GM’s Bupyeong plant.
