The next generation XT5 for the Chinese market
Even though the launch of the next-generation Cadillac XT5 is fast approaching, there are still some big questions surrounding its features and specifications, especially about what it will pack. For now, it looks like the XT5 will continue to rely on a turbocharged four-cylinder engine, while the LGX’s currently offered 3.6L V6 petrol engine is expected to be consigned to the scrapyard with the new generation.
For that reason, a turbocharged 2.0L I4 LSY engine seems like the safest choice, potentially paired with a 48-volt mild hybrid system. In its current non-hybrid configuration, this setup produces 233 horsepower and 258 pound-feet of torque, and is paired with GM’s nine-speed automatic transmission. LSY may also be completely unchanged from the current generation.

That’s not to say there aren’t other viable options – the turbocharged 2.5L I4 LK0 engine certainly comes to mind considering it’s already used in several GM crossovers, including the Chevy Traverse, GMC Acadia, and Buick Enclave. Producing up to 328 horsepower, the LK0 will represent a significant increase in the XT5’s output and capabilities.
No matter what, we’ll be there every step of the way to give you the latest information on the 2028 Cadillac XT5 and everything else GM, so stay tuned.
