- Chevrolet will replace the Equinox’s CVT with an eight-speed automatic in 2027.
- Chevy will make some other changes to the crossover, such as new exterior colors.
- The crossover appears to be largely unchanged.
It appears Chevrolet is making significant changes to the Equinox for 2027. The automaker allegedly swapped the crossover’s continuously variable transmission on the front-wheel-drive model for an eight-speed automatic. Hallelujah.
A post on GM In The News seems to indicate a series of small changes Chevy will make to the 2027 Equinox. It lists the eight-speed for the FWD variant under “New Features” and the CVT under “Deletes.” Motor1 has contacted Chevrolet to confirm the report.
For 2026, a CVT is paired with the Equinox’s 1.5-liter turbocharged four-cylinder engine. It makes 175 horsepower and 203 pound-feet of torque, and the only way buyers get an automatic transmission right now is to upgrade to all-wheel drive, which adds $2,000 to the price tag.
Other 2027 Equinox Changes

The Equinox largely carried over to the new model year. If the report is true, Chevrolet will make some minor changes to the crossover. There will be a new Autumn Harvest Metallic exterior color, replacing the Cacti Green option, which was discontinued by the company.
On the Equinox RS, the Black interior with Red Accents will feature Torch Red only, replacing the Torch Red and Santorini Blue stitching. A new connected camera system will be included in the Safety and Technology Package, which will arrive at a later date.
The 2026 Chevrolet Equinox starts at $30,795, including a $1,995 destination charge. We expect prices to increase slightly in 2027.

Mototr1’s view: CVTs have become a mainstay of affordable vehicles, replacing traditional automatic transmissions in some makes and models, so it’s surprising to see automakers discontinue them. We won’t complain about this change.
