HP Tuners has unlocked the Chevrolet Corvette ZR1’s engine control module (ECM). Although General Motors is trying to prevent adjustments with new cybersecurity measures, the aftermarket company has rolled out upgrades for models that can produce nearly 1,200 horsepower at the rear wheels.
The stock ZR1 produces 1,064 hp and 828 lb-ft of torque from a 5.5-liter twin-turbocharged flat-plane-crank V8 engine. ECU Upgrade, which costs $1,499produces 1,180 hp and 1,094 lb-ft of torque while maintaining the car’s original factory thermal limitations and components.
Matt Sanford, of HP Tuners, posted on Facebook that even greater power gains are possible if you ignore stock safety parameters. He says the ZR1 can get a power increase of up to 25 percent with racing fuel.
He also highlighted the challenges of tuning the Bosch-supplied ECM, which he said is “unlike tuning any other GM product.” You can see the full post below explaining the technicalities of the song.
