BMW i4 Effectively Dead

  • The new BMW i3 will replace the current i4 sedan.
  • BMW product boss Bernd Körber hinted that ‘there’s more to come’.
  • Production of the i4 will likely end later this year.

BMW’s new i3 electric sedan will arrive in the US in just a few months—but what will this mean for the current i4? Well, it looks like the battery-powered 4 Series sedan will be out soon.

We spoke to BMW product boss Bernd Körber at the i3’s launch in Germany. He said that the i4 will be no more, and the i3 will effectively replace it for now. That said, a true successor to the i4 may still be in the works. As Körber says:

The ‘i3 is more or less the successor to the i4. But you’ll see the portfolio expand over the next few years as our line of electric products expands—so there’s more to come. But for now, the i3 is basically the successor to the i4.’

There have been rumors that the i4 is currently nearing the end of its life cycle, and this confirms that. Despite receiving a facelift in 2024, reports suggest that production will finish in late 2026. We know that a new 4 Series is likely to arrive soon, and will use the Neue Klasse i3 platform.

The i3 is expected to go on sale later this year as a 2027 model. This effectively marks the end of the i4 as we know it. REARING.
