Alpine Sports Car: Coming to America?

Alpina’s arrival in the US is imminent. The French automaker previously planned to bring many SUVs to the United States by 2028, but with the recent decline in EVs, a new report suggests that the A110 sports car may be scheduled to arrive in the United States first.

According to Automotive NewsAlpine CEO Philippe Krief said the A110 is currently undergoing crash tests in the US. Although Krief has not confirmed the sports car’s arrival in America, the two-door is expected to arrive on US roads in late 2027.

If and when the A110 comes to America, Alpine says America should account for half of the sports car’s total sales—a pretty significant amount. The company estimates that it will be able to sell around 350,000 units of the sports car globally per year.

“We are now focused on Europe, because this business was built for Europe, but of course the growth can happen in the US,” said Krief. A. “I don’t want to shy away from that opportunity in the US.”

There are still some big questions surrounding the A110’s arrival in the United States, the biggest of which is sales. Alpine has reportedly been in talks with AutoNation regarding distribution, but it’s unclear whether the company plans to set up shop with dedicated dealers in the US.

Other questions surround the car itself—like what drives it. We already know that the next-generation Alpine Performance Platform A110 will be capable of supporting gas and electric engines, but Krief is adamant that the new sports car “will be electric”.

The current A110, which is exclusively gas-powered, uses a turbocharged four-cylinder engine that produces 252 horsepower in base form and sends it to 62 miles per hour in 4.5 seconds. With a lightweight bonded aluminum frame, this sports car weighs only about 2,430 pounds.

With the battery pack, we expect the next version to be a bit heavier.

Motorcycle Pickup1: Alpine bringing the A110 sports car to the US first would be a smart move. Even with waning enthusiasm for electric vehicles in the United States, buyers may be more eager to buy an electric sports car than another electric SUV.
