Caton Is New British Sports Car Teasing Retro-Styled Roadster

Caton is a newly launched British boutique sports car brand that is gearing up to launch a two-seater with styling inspiration from the 1950s. Her full debut is at London’s Salon Privé which runs from 21 to 23 April.

There is only one teaser image of Caton’s first model. From what it looks like, there’s a rounded styling and a simple wraparound windshield. To us, there seems to be some inspiration from the Jaguar C-Type (comparison below), except that there seems to be a more prominent point in the tail for the Caton.

“This is an exciting precision reincarnation of an icon, an icon that will set new standards in bus construction,” said Tim Strafford, CEO of Caton’s vehicle manufacturing partner, Envisage Group.

Caton doesn’t just build on a series of classic models. The company intends to use the original as a starting point but applies the latest technology and manufacturing methods to the vehicle. The resulting vehicle retains the retro look but has tweaks to make it more user-friendly for the owner.

Caton says tooling for vehicles has tolerances of up to 0.2 millimeters (0.008 inches). The company also employs craftsmen who use British Wheels to shape the aluminum body panels by hand.

Introducing modern technology to the interior might suggest that a Caton sports car could have an infotainment screen as this is an expected feature on the current model. Even a digital meter is a possibility.

The only thing Caton has to say about the vehicle’s powertrain is that there are significant performance improvements over the original. Even so, we don’t know for sure what model inspired this sports car, so it’s difficult to estimate the amount of power. It’s not mentioned that this vehicle has a combustion engine, so we can’t rule out electric propulsion.

In the announcement, Caton said they plan to work in “the automotive sector and beyond.” The release mentions furniture as something the brand might work on later. These other items will come from the same ethos of taking classic products and incorporating modern updates.
