Lexus And Toyota Dominate 5-Year Cost-To-Own Awards

The Kelley Blue Book has awarded it the cheapest cars to own in five years. Of all the 2022 model year cars on the market, two Japanese brands dominate the least: Toyota and Lexus.

In fact, KBB awarded Toyota and Lexus at the 2022 Kelley Blue Book 5-Year Cost To Own Awards for mainstream and luxury brands, respectively. KBB also provides a 5-Year Cost To Award for each vehicle category, which you can see in the table below.

As you can see, out of 23 vehicle categories, there are five Toyota vehicles, namely the recently launched Corolla, Avalon, Corolla Hybrid, Sienna and Tundra. While the luxury vehicle category is filled by four Lexus models, namely UX, NX, RX, and LX.

For electric vehicles, the Nissan LEAF won the award for the mainstream brand while the Tesla Model 3 topped the luxury brand segment.

The 5-Year Cost of Owning a KBB takes into account depreciation, expected fuel costs, finance and insurance costs, maintenance and repair costs, and state costs. Basically, the data shows which cars are the cheapest to own within five years, which will help consumers with their car buying decisions.

For 2022 model year vehicles, the projected cost of ownership is based on Kelley Blue Book 5-Year Cost to Own data on average for the initial five-year ownership period.
