See Brazen Texas Thieves Steal Chevy Corvette Wheels In 60 Seconds

Cameras are everywhere these days. Hopefully, the ever-watching eye can help catch a bunch of cooks in Texas. A NASCAR pit crew candidate took the wheels and tires of a C7 Corvette on November 3, completing a caper in under 60 seconds. Unbeknownst to them, a Tesla in the parking lot recorded the whole thing.

The crime occurred at noon on November 3 in Southlake, Texas. Southlake Police posted a video on YouTube along with a lengthy (and indeed hilarious) description of the situation. At approximately 1:39 p.m. local time, a black Dodge Charger was spotted parked next to a white Corvette in a nearly empty parking lot. Two people wearing masks and ill-fitting clothes casually got out of the car on the passenger side. One jacked up the car while the other removed the wheel nuts with what looked like an electric wrench.

There is no sound in the video, but as the car lifts up, we see the hazard lights flash as part of the alarm system. After the wheel came off, a third masked person got out of the car to retrieve it. Their speed became noticeably faster at this point when the wheel was thrown into the trunk. Wrenches and jacks get into cars, but not before criminals good place the ‘Vette on a block of wood. There were last few seconds of fumbling as the trio returned to the Charger, who then sped off. We saw three people, but there’s probably at least one more because the brake lights stayed on throughout the crime.

By the way, the video from start to finish is exactly 59 seconds long. Fortunately for the police, the Tesla that recorded the caper was parked in the right location. Charger’s license plate number was arrested and they are investigating, but anyone with information or a tip is asked to contact Southlake Police at 817-748-8915. As for the driver of the Corvette, we don’t know exactly what wheels were on the car, but the stolen one is said to be worth $700.
