See If 1986 Buick Grand National Runs Again After Sitting For 20 Years

If you are not familiar with Garage Grip Deputy, this is one of the interesting automotive YouTube channels. The general recipe is that Derek, the host, buys an old classic car or truck, drives the vehicle, and travels long distances. This time, the engine that was revived was the 1986 Buick Grand National.

This car allegedly belonged to a little old woman who took care of it during its ownership. Although, we cannot know how much of the story is actually true.

The license plate shows 2002 as the last year of registration for road driving. Around that time, the owner parked the Grand National outside, and the Buick sat there for years. Mother Nature is not kind to this machine because moss starts growing on the body. The sun bakes the interior.

Garage Grip Deputy video has a general formula. The host offers a tour of his purchase and what he knows about the history of the vehicle. Then, it’s time to run the car. The process starts with the basics by making sure the engine is running, checking the spark, and making sure the powerplant is getting fuel.

There are always challenges along the way. In this case, the fuel pump is off. After solving that problem, everything went smoothly for a while. There was a spark, and the fuel injector was working. The engine roared to life immediately after turning the key.

The next bump on the road is not so easy to get past. The Grand National apparently has a unique power brake system with an electric motor that creates pressure to help it stop. If the system fails, then the driver basically loses the ability to slow down the car. The problem is that this old technology is prone to failure. Can Derek find a solution?

Today, the Grand National and even the rarer and higher-performance GNX are very collectible vehicles. The desire to have one among collectors stems from the low production numbers and impressive power for a muscle car in the 1980s.
