Hyundai Ioniq 6 Walkaround Video Gets Up Close To All-Electric Sedan

[ad_1]

Hyundai’s line of electric vehicles will continue to grow in the years to come. The next EV from the brand we’re looking for is the Ioniq 6. It’s the sedan that will give Hyundai a rival Tesla Model 3, and the new video gives a detailed look at the vehicle.

The video captures the prototype sitting in the hotel parking lot. It’s covered in the same camouflage and cladding we’ve seen before, but a close look reveals some design details. At the rear, the swooping model hides the crystal-like taillights behind the cover, which appears to be under a camouflaged rear spoiler. Chunky cladding on the back hides an element of sporty style.

Up front, the camouflage does a good job hiding Hyundai styling cues. The headlights look sleek, but poor lighting and weather obscure the finer details. There is an open front camera and the place for the sensor is positioned on the bottom grille. The car is roughly the same size as the Model 3 sedan.

This model will use the brand’s E-GMP platform that Hyundai uses for the Ioniq 5 and other EVs, meaning the model will likely share a powertrain. It is expected that Hyundai will use the 77.5 kilowatt-hour battery from the Ioniq 5 in the Ioniq 6, with a larger capacity also planned.

The Ioniq 6 takes its design inspiration from the sleek Hyundai Prophecy concept. Although the prototype that we saw was not very attractive, the Ioniq 6 does look to have an interesting design. The 6 doesn’t look as sleek and futuristic as the concept, but production cars rarely live up to such lofty dreams.

Hyundai hasn’t told us when it will reveal the Ioniq 6, but we expect the company to release its rumored 2023 model this year. However, Hyundai has not indicated when the new EV will go on sale in the US. Automakers have been strategic in launching new EVs worldwide, often starting with a specific trim or powertrain package before expanding the number of configurations and price points available. Hyundai could choose to do the same for the sedan.
