Cadillac Will Likely Introduce First Autonomous Vehicle By 2030

At the 2022 Consumer Electronics Show (CES) in January, Cadillac revealed a revolutionary electric concept vehicle: the fully autonomous Cadillac InnerSpace. While InnerSpace hasn’t actually been built and instead exists as a digital rendering set, its existence shows that the luxury brand is serious about developing self-driving vehicles. In fact, Cadillac’s parent company, General Motors, recently stated that it intends to release its first autonomous vehicle before 2030, and will most likely wear the Cadillac badge.

GM and its autonomous vehicle subsidiary, Cruise (formerly known as Cruise Automation), are “pursuing a comprehensive path to autonomous mobility with the aim of delivering General Motors’ first private autonomous vehicle as soon as the middle of the decade.”

There are no specifics on the upcoming autonomous vehicle yet, but it’s safe to assume that it will use self-driving technology developed by GM for its Cruise Origin robotaxi, while being a Cadillac model. Cadillac is already at the forefront of GM’s autonomous vehicle efforts, with the luxury marque being the first to offer the Super Cruise hands-free highway driving assistant. Meanwhile, the upcoming Celestiq electric flagship sedan will be one of the first vehicles to feature Ultra Cruise, a more advanced version of the Super Cruise capable of hands-free driving in 95 percent of road scenarios.

Fourth-generation Cadillac Escalade with Leica Pegasus: Two rigs

Recently, we spied on the fourth-generation Escalade equipped with the Leica Pegasus: Two rig, which shows that the full-size SUV is being used as a guinea pig for Ultra Cruise’s hands-free driving technology. The fifth-generation Escalades already featured the Super Cruise.

InnerSpace is certainly not the first autonomous vehicle concept created by Cadillac. Cadillac also revealed a six-seater Cadillac SocialSpace (later known as the Personal Autonomous vehicle, or PAV) at CES 2021, along with a self-adjusting PersonalSpace (also known as VTOL) glyph. Another autonomous Cadillac concept is also in the form of the upcoming Cadillac OpenSpace. With all that in mind, it seems that Cadillac is being shifted to become the flagship brand for GM’s autonomous vehicle initiatives.
