New Chevy Bolt Pulls Screen From This Chevy Truck

Posted on

General Motors has revived the Chevy Bolt nameplate for the 2027 model year, bringing with it a series of major upgrades. Among them are changes to the powertrain to deliver more horsepower, longer range, and less time waiting at the plug. Additionally, the new Bolt also gets an updated infotainment layout. However, the screen used may look familiar.

As it turns out, the new Bolt adopts the same infotainment display as found on the current third-generation Chevy Colorado (2023 model year and newer). However, while the screen itself is identical, some related design elements have been changed in the migration to the all-electric Bolt.

At their core, both vehicles use the same 11.3-inch diagonal LCD touchscreen with Google Built-In, offering features like navigation, voice control, Bluetooth streaming, and app integration. However, the way those screens are packaged into the dashboard is very different between the Bolt and Colorado.

On the Colorado, the screen is more tablet-like, jutting out above the center stack in a clean, rectangular shape. The edges are more rounded, and the display appears a little more upright and separated from the surrounding trim. The volume/power knob is located to the left of the screen.

Meanwhile, Bolt integrates the same screens more cohesively into the dashboard. The screen is framed by thicker bezels and sits within the dashboard itself, rather than on top of it, marking a marked change from the floating tablet style seen in the Colorado. The volume/power knob is located on the right side of the screen and is embedded in the bezel itself.

Underneath the screen, both vehicles retain physical climate controls, but the layout is different here too.

The fact that the Bolt doesn’t offer Apple CarPlay or Android Auto is also quite notable, as the decision is in line with GM’s aim to utilize its own infotainment services rather than popular phone mirroring software, as discussed previously. It should also be noted that the Bolt is the tenth electric vehicle to use the GM X76 electric motor.

As a reminder, the new Chevy Bolt is produced at the GM Fairfax Assembly plant in Kansas. Production is scheduled to end next year.
