Ford Focus ST Gets Track Pack With Rigid Suspension, Bigger Brakes

The Ford Focus ST is now a forbidden fruit in the United States but the hot hatch lives a rather interesting life on the Old continent. In Europe, the Ford go-fast underwent a facelift last year and is now receiving a new track-focused package, which features hardware upgrades for better performance for “true driving enthusiasts”.

This kit was developed entirely by the Ford Performance team and tested in Germany around the famous Nurburgring track. The Track Pack is only available for models with a manual gearbox and includes an adjustable KW Automotive coilover suspension system with stainless steel housings for dampers with 12-step adjustment for upward response and 16-step adjustment for rebound. The goal is that enthusiasts can improve the responsiveness of the suspension according to the trajectory they will attack.

Complementing the new suspension is a set of 19-inch flow-formed wheels that weigh 10 percent less than the standard Focus ST wheels. The wheels are fitted with Pirelli P Zero Corsa tires and hide an enhanced Brembo brake system. The front disc is 10 percent larger in diameter than the default brakes and uses Brembo four-piston fixed calipers. Last but not least, the new powder-coated springs provide up to 50 percent stiffer response and reduce ride height by up to 10mm.

What sets the Focus ST Track Pack apart from the regular hot hatch are a number of visual touches, including the rear spoiler, diffuser and front bumper wings which are wrapped in a glossy black finish regardless of the body color. The same treatment is also found on the roof, front top grille, and side mirror caps.

The Powering Focus ST Track Pack is a turbocharged 2.3-liter EcoBoost four-cylinder engine with 280 horsepower (209 kilowatts). As noted above, the performance package is only available for cars equipped with a three-pedal six-speed gearbox.

The order book for the hot hatch is now open with first customer deliveries planned for November this year.
