Chevy Wins Super Bowl With Sopranos-Themed Ad For Silverado EV

This year’s Super Bowl features advertisements from Toyota, Kia, BMW, and many more brands from outside the automotive field. Not all commercials are successful – they have never been – with some ads being better than others, and one from Chevy was among those stars. It showcased the new Silverado EV 2024 by remaking the title sequence for the TV show “The Sopranos”, which scored very well with Ad Ageget five full stars from marketing industry publications.

The ad is a proper modernization of title order, which originally featured main character Tony Soprano driving a 1999 Chevy Suburban from Manhattan to New Jersey. The new ad recreates the gritty landscape shots of the original, but a few other changes suggest that it’s time for a new generation to take over. The Silverado EV replaced the Suburban, and Tony Meadow’s daughter, played by Jaime-Lynn Sigler in the show and commercials, replaced Tony behind the wheel.

“This place is all about taking a nontraditional approach to a nontraditional electric truck,” said Steve Majoros, Chevy’s vice president of marketing. “The Silverado EV is redefining our best-selling nameplate, while the venue envisions what the next generation of ‘soprano‘ might look like today.”

The ad ends with Sigler showing off the EV’s four-wheel drive as he gets out of the truck to hug his brother AJ from the show, with Robert Iler reprising his role. The TV show Sopranos ran from 1999 to 2007, but recently got the prequel treatment with a full-length film that landed in theaters late last year, bringing gritty crime drama to a new generation of viewers.

The accuracy of the ads with the original order is not a coincidence. Chevy and his agency Commonwealth // McCann could work closely with David Chase, the show’s creator and director, and Phil Abraham, director of photography for the original title sequence, in remaking the new commercial. Well done.
