Office Chair Struts Make For Shockingly Good Adjustable Suspension Setup

[ad_1]

The adjustable suspension system is complex. You have to deal with valves, electronics, unique parts and more. Due to its complexity, you will often find these available in high-performance models or luxury vehicles. But what can Average Joe do to get it installed in their car? The folks from Garage 54 have a clever if sketchy solution.

Yes, the crazy mechanic of the channel did it again. This time, they’ve got office chair support, clapping Pepper, and a lot of ingenuity. Their goal was to see if these seat supports could help provide the Lada 1500’s adjustable suspension and whether this unusual arrangement could support the weight of the car.

To guarantee some form of success, Vlad and his crew placed these four supports in the back and welded them to the shaft. Surprisingly (or unsurprisingly, if you’re optimistic), this setting works when the vehicle is static. Even the jerry can adjuster works in-store, making it (possibly) the first Lada to exist with an adjustable height system. Not only that, the car can be lowered by itself by pulling the lever, just like an office chair. But the real test will be outside the garage.

Vlad was able to drive Pepper out of the shop without a hitch. However, he noted that ride quality has deteriorated due to modifications. Vlad called the ride bearable with dampers on the highest setting. It even managed a few rounds within the area without failing fatally.

However, the lowest setting makes the ride really stiff. The rear of the car bounced at low speeds, with Vlad describing the experience as ‘very unpleasant’. Still, the system holds up even if one of the dampers breaks out of the weld. Overall, Vlad said the experiment was a success and there is no need to repeat it in future episodes. Of course, we didn’t see any automaker adopting this solution, and please, don’t try it yourself.
