Rumors about Jeep and Dodge products adopting the inline-six engine only returned a few years ago. We might finally get to see this long-rumored powerplant at the New York Auto Show which has press days on April 13 and 14.
During a media roundtable at the Chicago Auto Show, a journalist asked Jim Morrison, Head of Jeep in North America, about the engine. Based on auto bloghe replied: “Are you coming to New York?”

Rumors suggest an inline-six engine running codenamed Tornado. It supposedly replaces the 3.0 liter and is turbocharged. In addition, there is the assistance of a 48 volt mild hybrid. The engineering wasn’t just a GME 2.0-liter turbocharged four-cylinder with an extra pair of cylinders. A report said the plant had “relatively small, closely spaced bores” and aluminum cylinder liners.
The first model to get the 3.0-liter inline-six was allegedly the two-row Jeep Grand Cherokee. Wagoneer will get it too. Later, the next generation Dodge Charger and Challenger will have the power plant. A ram truck will also be available with a power generator.
The inline-six will replace the current application of the 5.7-liter V8. No info has been released yet, but Stellantis plans to offer a few tones from the powerhouse. For comparison, the 3.0-liter inline-six with integrated starter-generator from the Land Rover Defender produces 395 horsepower (295 kilowatts) and 406 pound-feet (551 Newton-meters) of torque.
Don’t worry about the loss of the V8 which means the end of a powered vehicle from Dodge. The company is developing a retro-inspired electric muscle car for 2024. There are reports that they have Tesla battle performance. A concept could debut later this year.
Ram is also gearing up to go electric by 2024. The concept renders take a look at what the company has planned. The company is aiming for a range of 500 miles (805 kilometers) at a cost.
