In the spring of this year, Polestar gave Polestar 2 a major software update that brought many improvements to electric vehicles. The exterior, however, has been left unchanged but it appears the Swedish manufacturer is preparing a facelift for the zero-emissions liftback. A new batch of spy photos shows a test prototype of the model with a very minimal amount of camouflage.
As you can clearly see from the shot, this is a test car as shown on the front door. Our spies caught it in the Austrian Alps today undergoing a pre-production evaluation on a public road. There is some camouflage covering the front fascia and we suspect Polestar will give the model a new grille design. There could be other changes to the front bumper and grille panels, though it’s hard to tell from these early photos.

Nothing seems to have changed on the sides, apart from the silver band-coated alloy wheels. Most likely, it’s not just hiding the new wheel design as it appears to be some kind of measuring device with sensors built into the alloy. Perhaps the Swedish automaker will apply minimal touches to further improve the vehicle’s aerodynamics. For the record, the wheels are wrapped in 19-inch Michelin Primacy tires measuring 245/45.
For the 2023 model year in the United States, the Polestar 2 is available starting at $48,400 for the single-motor version, while the dual-motor variant starts at $51,900. Both prices are before the applicable $1,400 destination fee and a $7,500 Federal Tax Credit. Depending on the market, the Polestar 2 can now be ordered with an upgraded heat pump designed for better cold weather performance, new exterior design options, new wheels, new colors and a more advanced air quality sensor.
It will be interesting to see if these visual upgrades for Polestar 2 will also bring hardware upgrades or new software updates to improve efficiency.
