We understand. Indulging your right foot in a Chevrolet Corvette can be a very hard urge to resist. However, a New Hampshire driver didn’t just give up on the instantaneous speed. guess speed that is, as the driver the defendant will appear in court on September 22 to address some of the charges stemming from a zealous drive. Chief among them? Reckless driving to go 161 mph in the 70-mph zone.
That’s the speed of 30-year-old Alejandro Zapata-Rebello at first, according to New Hampshire State Police. We said at first because it’s not a finished fun, and the bright orange 2021 Corvette is likely to catch the eye. C8 was first spotted at around 11:15 am local time on July 31, traveling north on I-93 near Ashland in the central part of the state. The ‘Vette actually passed the police car, which managed to get a reading of 161 mph. Officers can’t catch up, but as everyone knows, you can’t outrun the radio.
The warning was issued, and the orange Chevrolet was spotted minutes later, still running like a bat out of hell. Rebello isn’t alone either, as reports have come in regarding several cars plowing through traffic, nearly causing multiple crashes in what looks like a race. The Woodstock Police Department was alerted to the situation and noted the Corvette was traveling 130 mph as it approached town.
Fortunately, central New Hampshire is mostly rural. However, Woodstock is a popular tourist destination on the edge of the Presidential Range of the White Mountains. The Corvette gets stuck in traffic, which local officers move in. It is not known what happened to the other speeding cars, but Rebello was eventually arrested by the New Hampshire State Police who initially recorded him for sixty dollars. And the rest, as they say, is history.
Almost. Excessive speeding was not the crime Rebello alleged. In addition to two counts of reckless driving, he was also charged with disobeying an officer. September 22 can be a very expensive day for these errant speed seekers.
