We love automotive mysteries. Users on the Bronco 6G forum found a strange listing for the Ford Bronco Oates 2023 using a vehicle identification number decoder available from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.
According to to the decoder, Oates will only be available at the two-door 2023 Bronco. They will be identifiable from “E4J” to the fifth through seventh characters in the VIN.

Users on the Bronco 6G forums are wildly speculating what this vehicle might be as no other info is available. The main thought was that Oates could be an initializer, similar to the GOAT mode model, which stands for “Surfacing Any Kind of Terrain.”
There are also plenty of jokes about this model that are somehow related to pop star John Oates of the band Hall & Oates. Maybe this Bronco will be a maneater.
Since the Bronco’s revival for the 2021 model year, Ford has introduced additional trim level rewards and special packages that were not part of the lineup at launch. The current highest range is the Raptor with a twin-turbo 3.0-liter V6 pumping out 418 horsepower (311 kilowatts) and 440 pound-feet (596 Newton-meters) of torque. Power flows through a 10-speed automatic transmission. Plus, there’s a larger drive axle and a Dana axle.
There is also the 2022 Bronco Everglades with a focus on passing through the swamps. It can wade up to 36.4 inches of water thanks in part to the snorkel. The graph on the side doubles as an indication of how deep the water is. Inside, there’s a marine-grade vinyl interior and rubber floor mats for easier cleaning.
The 2022 Bronco Wildtrak is available with the new HOSS 3.0 package for customers looking to go off-road. The fixtures include Fox 2.5-inch internal bypass dampers, revised spring levels, heavy-duty steering rack and tie rod ends from Ford Performance, front skid plates, and powder-coated steel bumper with integrated fog lamps.
For 2023, Ford is expanding its lineup even further with a vintage-inspired Heritage Edition that reportedly fits between the Wildtrack and the Everglades.
