Mercedes-AMG EQE SUV Spying Makes Rounds In Germany

The last time we caught the Mercedes-AMG EQE SUV test vehicle, it took advantage of the rear steering capability for sharp turns in a snowy polar landscape. Our most recent sighting saw the high-performance EV swerve casually through a roundabout, but based on location, things won’t last long.

That’s because our spy crew caught this AMG prototype hanging around outside the Nurburgring in Germany. Hopefully we’ll get some follow-up photos on the track, but the roundabout near the famous trail is ideal for taking clear, high-resolution photos. That’s exactly what we have here, showing a low-riding vehicle with aggressive Michelin Pilot Sport tires on 22-inch wheels. That’s a major hint that this camo-clad SUV is becoming an AMG model, as are the massive brakes visible behind the spoked rims. What’s less obvious are the wider side skirts, but they all lead to the same AMG conclusion.

The snug camo wrap doesn’t hide the outlines of the SUV’s EQE grille or the corner vents up front. We already have a good idea of ​​what the standard EQE looks like thanks to photos of the test vehicle that opened earlier this year, but the AMG model should feature a few sporty tweaks to set it apart. There may be two AMG variants, the high-end EQE 53 and the entry-level EQE 43. Our sources believe this is 53, with 43 having less aggressive stances and lower power.

By the way, the days of AMG making Mercedes internal combustion engines are numbered. The all-electric EQE 53 SUV will likely get the same 677-horsepower (506-kilowatt) rating as the Mercedes-AMG EQE sedan, using two electric motors with a 90.6-kWh battery. As such, the EQE 43 SUV could offer 469 hp (350 kW), mirroring the EQE 43 sedan. Inside, you can expect a Hyperscreen dashboard display from Mercedes, and we’ve already seen the cool rear steering feature in action.
