Juan Manuel Fangio is considered by many to be the greatest racer of all time, so much so that yours favorite drivers will consider it as one of their favorite drivers. The Argentine racer’s contribution to motorsports will forever be etched in history, and this is your chance to own one of his prized vehicles.

El MaestroOwned 1958 Mercedes-Benz 300 SL Roadster for sale at RM Sotheby’s. This will be a closed bidding auction from 28 February to 4 March 2022. Clients will offer the full price without having to worry about the buyer’s premium for the lot.

Fangio may have been linked with several automakers throughout his racing career, but one cannot deny his deep connection to Mercedes-Benz. This Mercedes 300 SL Roadster was presented to him by the German brand when he announced his retirement in 1958. Upholstered in Metallic Light Blue over Crème with a motif similar to the national flag of Argentina. Mercedes’ generosity towards Fangio continued, eventually appointing him President of Mercedes-Benz Argentina in 1974.

According to records, Fangio covered more than 70,000 kilometers (43,496 miles) on this 300 SL Roadster through an extensive tour of Europe and South America. When an official museum was established for Fangio in 1986, it housed the prized roadster, with the years-long patina of El Maestro intact and unaltered.

As such, the 300 SL Roadster for sale still has its original gear selector, steering wheel and seats. If you’re a Fangio fan, you’ll really appreciate these genuine parts, the stuff that El Maestro operated during the twilight of his motorsports career.

The 300 SL Roadster Fangio heads to London this week for a public inspection, then to the Royal Automobile Club, before traveling to the International Concours of Elegance in Switzerland.

The hammer price for this one-of-a-kind 300 SL Roadster won’t be revealed to the public, but we could see seven or even eight-digit dollar figures.
