Custom 1987 Toyota Dolphin Motorhome Wants Attention, For Auction

When you think of pickup-based camping, there are definite shapes and forms that come to mind. That’s especially if you’re talking about old ones from three to four decades ago.

But this custom motorhome was found listed on Cars & Deals slightly different. Decorated with a custom-finished exterior made of metal and wood, this camper is a compact 1987 Dolphin camper based on the Toyota Hilux pickup truck. And yes, it’s currently being negotiated with a handful of people interested enough to bring this unique machine home.

Complete with stained glass windows and wood trim, this Dolphin motorhome has the feel of a gypsy carriage slashing through old-school train cars from two centuries ago. It definitely needs some attention but you’ll be happy to know that this camper isn’t all show.

Under the hood, this custom bike is powered by a 2.4-liter Toyota 22R-E inline-four engine, producing 113 horsepower (84 kilowatts) and 140 pound-feet (190 Newton-meters) of torque. It was rebuilt in 2021, which means it’s relatively fresh at the moment.

Inside, it comes with a custom interior wood finish, folding sofa, bunk bed above cabin, three burner stove, fridge, sink, fresh water tank, custom light and 100Ah battery.

This custom Dolphin motorhome is not without its drawbacks. There are scratches around the exterior, along with a number of visible rust spots on the white paint finish. There are wood stains on the hood and doors, while some of the cabin interior trim has separated from the frame.

At the time of this writing, this very attractive camper is already collect 10 bids in Cars & Deals, with the highest bid at $8,888. There are three more days before the hammer falls on this so you might want to decide quickly if you’re really interested in bringing this home.
