Hennessey made a name for itself by giving American muscle cars a ludicrous power before branching out into hypercar territory with the Venom GT. While the latter is loosely based on the Lotus Exige, the new Venom F5 is an in-house project with the aim of engineering the fastest production car ever. A roadster version is on the way, but the Texas-based company is already working on a very different vehicle.
Completely electric, Project Deep Space was teased in late November last year as a four-seat, six-wheeled grand tourer set up in a 1+2+1 configuration. The $3 million odd is targeted to have over 2,000 horsepower and a limited production of 105 units. Production of the highway beast that stretches more than six meters (19.7 ft) is slated to begin in 2026. In a new interview with AutocarJohn Hennessey revealed additional details about the company’s first EV.
One of the goals was for the six-wheel-drive giant to claim the title of the fastest four-seater production car to 200 mph (322 km/h). While he didn’t go into specifics about the battery pack, the head honcho at Hennessey said the battery would have enough power for a range of 620 miles (1,000 kilometers) on a single charge.
That’s a rather bold claim considering how Project Deep Space would be a heavy car given its size and no less than six electric motors, one for each wheel. That said, the extended wheelbase will give engineers plenty of room to fit the large battery. Touted as the “modern equivalent of something like the Bugatti Royale,” the Hennessey EV will have a range “greater than it currently is.”
Although only a design sketch for now, the six-wheeled GT will turn into a showcar in the next two years. The diamond-shaped interior with a center driver’s seat and a fully foldable rear seat is about 90 percent finished. The vehicles, which will be presented to the public sometime in 2024, will represent about 95 percent of the final look.
While it hasn’t matured for four years or so, the first production model has already been sold to the same people who bought the Venom F5 Mojave Gold.
