Polestar CEO Wants to Produce O2 Electric Roadster

It was only early March when we took a glance at one of the prettiest cars we’d see all year round. Volvo’s electric spin-off brand Polestar surprised us with the launch of the O2. The hardtop electric convertible has four seats and rides on the same bonded aluminum platform as the upcoming Polestar 5. With the performance of the Polestar 1 plug-in hybrid coupe beyond cover, the zero-emissions roadster would be the perfect mainstay.

Will that happen? The answer is definitely possible. Polestar CEO Thomas Ingenlath sat and chatted with upper teeth magazine about the sales prospects of the O2: “My ambition is to make it a production car, but it’s not that easy. You have to respect the complexity. We’ll have to see where the O2 goes. When you’ve painted a painting, it’s always good to let it rest, and see it after a few months.” and still seeing if it’s a good painting.”

The stunning 2+2 electric roadster was the highlight of Polestar’s attendance last week at the 2022 Goodwood Festival of Speed. The Polestar 5 prototype is also in West Sussex, with the promise of a future top-range variant with nearly 900 horsepower. With good reason, Thomas Ingenlath says that “it’s amazing what you can do with an electric machine. It’s crazy, and great, and super to do that, and you can imagine what kind of car you get in there.”

When the O2 was first shown, Polestar was tight-lipped about its technical specifications. However, it’s easy to see the concept as a two-door Sila with a folding hardtop. By extension, it’s a more stylish take on what will be the production version of the Polestar 5 that will open in late 2023 with a massive 900 Newton-meters (664 pound-feet) of torque.

Just like the Polestar 1 of which only 1,500 units were ever built, the O2 would be a great way for Volvo to really put the Polestar on the high-end manufacturer’s automotive map.
